by William Woollett, artist, annotation, title, publisher and

Lennox-Boyd
#11-14. A set of four engravings each depicting two hunters with
Pointers in different scenes of hunting birds. Published by Thomas
Bradford who bought the first painting by Stubbs after 1767 and
then commissioned the next three paintings with a view to issuing
the works as an engraved set. Bradford advertised the proposal
for publishing by subscription at a price of One Guinea and a
Half. William Woollett was a line-engraver of international reputation
and a friend of Stubbs. The four paintings, after which the engravings
were made, are now in the Mellon Collection, USA. These engravings,
printed c1800, are crisp impressions and are one of the most
important series of Stubbs' work. Complete sets in this condition
are very uncommon in the Australian market.
