Label reads
"With the Discovery in the Antarctic. (January 1930). A
cradle of sea elephant life in the remote Crozet Islands. A panoramic
view at beautiful American Bay. Possession Island (Crozet Group).
In the background the snow-clad ranges rise to an altitude of
5,000 feet and give birth to the crystal stream which meanders
through the picture. During the mating season, the neighbourhood
becomes a vast sea elephant nursery." Press print from the

"Scene at Macquarie Island made by Capt Hurley explorer.
A group of sea elephants has invaded a rookery with the harmless
intent of falling off to sleep there. The elephants do not attack
the penguins ashore, in fact, the reverse is the case. When at
sea however, the sea elephant looks upon the penguin as legitimate
prey. Photo made by Capt Frank Hurley, noted explorer and photographer."
