image into three parts, old stains to margin above affecting
image.
Caption
reads "This wonderful view of a peaceful town stretching
along the shores of an incredibly blue harbour, is gained as
you top a high rise before descending to Mersa Matruh. The town
was much as we had left it, and little of value was found. It
is little more to-day than a collection of roofless ruins. The
D. of I. unit was one of the first to enter, on the heels of
the tanks."

meaning the monastery, is on the top of a mountain which has

landscape of Petra Valley. In its stronghold isolation the valley
became a great centre for caravans, and from it
waxed
the rich and powerful. The great city declined when cities more
convenient to commercial centres grew up. With the decline of
trade the city of Petra gradually faded from history. Its ruins
still remain the wonder of the world."
