Text reads
"Painted by H. Thomson R.A. London. Published July 1st 1806,
by H. Macklin, 39, Fleet Street. Engraved by W. Say. From an
original picture in the collection of Sir Richard Colt Hoare,
Bart, at Stowr Head Wiltshire, to whom this plate is dedicated
by his obliged humble servt. H. Macklin." Poem reads "Sad
on the jutting eminence he sits, And views the main that ever
toils below; Still fondly forming in the farthest verge, Where
the sound ether mixes with the wave. Ships dim discovered dropping
from the clouds, At evening to the setting sun he turns; A mournful
eye and down his dying heart, Sinks helpless."

101 Strand." Captain Wallis was in Australia from 1814 to
1819.

Constable
sought out gifted engraver David Lucas to reproduce his paintings,
as he felt the tonal qualities of mezzotint captured the mood
of his landscapes. Together they produced a series known as "English
Landscape."
