The Wonderful Man-Fish, 1877. Wood engraving and letterpress, handbill, 30.4 x 15.3cm (paper size). Slight rubbing overall, minor perforations to right margin.
Advertisement for an exhibit at the Colosseum Variety Theatre [New York?], featuring "startling submarine performances … [where Prof Beach will] eat, drink, smoke and write with as much ease as in a drawing-room …"Professor Beach is illustrated with a merman's tail resting at the bottom of a tank, smoking a pipe.

"Wanganui", c1877. Watercolour, signed lower left, titled in ink in another hand on original accompanying label below on mount, 43.3 x 59cm. Minor chips to edges.
The Wanganui made her maiden voyage from London to Lyttelton, New Zealand in 1877. She made thirteen voyages out to New Zealand then was sold to the Shaw Savill Company about 1889 and renamed the Blenheim.
