Stamp reads
"Adamson Rothesay NB." James Adamson, was a photographer
in Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute, Scotland. He took ship portraits
dating from the 1880s, and was responsible for one of the most
comprehensive collections of sailing and steam ship photographs
for the period. Most of the pictures were taken just after the
ships were built.
