131 Irwin D. Hoffman (Amer., 1901-1989)
The Leatherneck, 1943. Etching with drypoint, signed and dated in plate lower right, titled and signed in pencil in margin below, 27.5 x 19.7cm.
Depicts an American naval officer with a tropical harbour view in background. Hoffman was an esteemed portrait painter, lithographer and etcher who received the John Taylor Arms prize from the Society of American Etchers and the Pennell Purchase Prize (Library of Congress).

Looking North from Elizabeth Street…, 1951. Pencil drawing, signed, dated and titled in pencil below, 34.5 x 25.5cm. Old tape marks verso, slight soiling to edges.
Title continues "before the building of 'Chifley Square' in 1961-62." Curtis made additions to the drawing after 1951 and subsequently modified its title.

139 Frederick Halpern (b.1909)

Austrian-born artist and writer, Frederick Halpern studied painting and printmaking techniques in both Vienna and Paris. Throughout his career he travelled extensively. He settled in Australia in the early 1950s.
