The Kuomintang was the political party that established China
as a republic in 1911, ruled China from 1928 to 1947 until defeated
by the Communists, and then withdrew to rule in Taiwan. Considered
to be the father of modern photojournalism, Cartier-Bresson was
an early adopter of 35mm format, and the master of candid photography.
He helped develop the "street photography" style that
has influenced generations of photographers.
