Rare turn of the century ivory carving of a kangaroo & joey with rather cat-like features. Probably inspired by an early French engraving of a kangaroo. Very finely carved, possibly Japanese.

Brass paperweight in the shape of a kangaroo, made from a gun-shell, impressed maker's stamp to base, 10cm high x 11cm.
Possibly styled after the engraving by George Stubbs. Could have been used as a car mascot, with its threaded hole below. Provenance: David Ell collection.
