107 [Souvenir Book] Grand Fair & Press Bazaar ...In Aid of the Queen Victoria Home for Consumptives, 1899. Letterpress and lithograph, cloth covers, oblong 4to. A fairly long bow! The book was "edited" by Lord Beauchamp, Governor of New South Wales, who was still Governor in 1901 at the time of Federation. Legend has it that due to hi apparent reticence to appear in public he did not attend as many Federation celebrations as he ought to have done. Material connected with Lord Beauchamp is therefore rare. Legend also suggests that one of the two main characters in Brideshead Revisited was based on him. |
