Written verso "Tell Jean Cocteau that I adore him, the only person for whom the myth opens its gates and from which he returns bronzed as from the seashore. Rainer Maria Rilke." Nolan did a number of carbon drawings: this one seems to be embellished with the impression of a coin. A drawing of a skull is also verso. |

Slight foxing, minor insect damage to cover. This book contains the first examples of colour woodblock printing in Australia. Art Nouveau strongly influenced both artists in this ambitious experiment in printmaking. This scarce issue predates the more commonly seen, but still rare, 1905 issue. |

Published by Golden Arrow Press, Melbourne; green linen bi-fold covers with gilt decoration, gold chord binding; folio. Containing 7 linocut illustrations, printed on vellum, and 3 linocuts in the text. Produced in its entirety by Waller, this rare and beautiful folio is one of the finest examples of fine art printing of the first half of the 20th century, and shows strong Art Deco influence. |
