by William Dobell above his own photographic portrait affixed
to inside front cover. The programme also contains photographs
of the Club's executive officers, and the modern interior and
facilities . Wangi is a familiar subject of Dobell's work.

9 Godfrey Miller

Godfrey
Miller (1893-1964), born in Wellington, NZ, began his career
in painting after moving to Melbourne in 1918. He painted simple
subjects - still lifes, landscapes and the human figure.

10 Rosaleen Norton

Press photograph
of the well-known "Witch of the Cross" beside one of
her paintings which caused a furore. The dates stamped verso
indicate the photograph was still being used in 1979, the year
she died. Born in N.Z. during a thunderstorm in 1917, Rosaleen
Norton moved to Sydney 1924, studied art (she was thrown out),
worked as artist's model, journalist (until the strange nature
of her drawings ended her job), and artist - her exhibitions
were always raided by police. She settled in Kings Cross, and
was regarded as the local witch.

11 Pixie O'Harris

Rhona Olive
(Pixie) O'Harris (1903-1995) born in Wales, emigrated to Australia
1920. On the voyage out 16-year-old Rhona was given the nickname
she assumed for the rest of her life. Working as a commercial
artist in Sydney, The Pixie O. Harris Fairy Book (1925), an illustrated
collection of radio stories, made her name. She published over
22 books.
