18 Anon. Florence Austral as Brunnhilde, c.1922. Photograph, silver gelatin print, inscribed "Every good wish, sincerely Florence Austral", 17.5 x 13.6cm. Florence Austral (1894-1968), born Mary Wilson in Richmond Victoria, in her most famous role of Brunnhilde in The Ring Cycle. She first sang it at Covent Garden in 1922. When MS cut short her stage career in the mid 1920s she devoted herself to recital and recording work. She returned to Australia in 1946. |
