This "Light English Opera", written by Sydney Grundy, music by Sir Arthur Sullivan, opened at the Savoy Theatre in 1892. It was the first Sullivan opera produced at the Savoy without Gilbert and the first based on an actual historical incident. |

27 Harold Cazneaux Nellie Stewart, Sydney, April 22nd 1931. Signed photograph, silver gelatin print, signed by Nellie Stewart and inscribed to Mr Eric Howell, 14 x 11.5cm, mounted on card 26 x 17cm. Inscribed "To Mr Eric Howell in gratitude and for remembrance of - April 22nd 1931 Sydney". Nellie Stewart died on 20th June 1931 (born 1861). She gave her last performance (the balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet) at Mosman Town Hall. She was chosen to sing an ode to Australia at the opening of the first Federal Parliament at the Melbourne Exhibition Buildings in May 1901. |
