Frank Hinder Lithographs
Edited by Lin Bloomfield, introduction by John Henshaw

Frank Hinder, a pioneer of Australian abstraction, commands a prominent position in the history of Australian art.

The many facets of his experiences inspired the diversity of his themes. This diversity was embodied to a large extent in his lithographs which reveal an originality of concept combined with painstaking craftsmanship.

Frank's first series of lithographs dating from 1939 to 1961 total 78. His bird and animal studies range from the realistic (Two Cats, Frogmouth Family) to the abstract (Waterbird, Cat and Kittens) and other themes reflect those of his paintings (Lake Fisherman, Subway, Christ Is With Us, Advance and River Bank).

The Standard Edition, limited to 2,000, is an indispensible book for any art library and contains 37 full page black and white plates, 9 full page colour plates, 16 pages of working drawings and a fully illustrated catalogue raisonne.

The DeLuxe Edition (limited to 155 copies, 140 for sale) includes an original, tipped-in, numbered lithograph signed by Frank Hinder. The book itself is numbered and signed by Frank and comes in a cloth slipcase.

Six original lithographs were commissioned for the DeLuxe Edition: Aerial, Buoyant, Gray Harmony, Noontide, Rainbow Lorrikeets, and The Lithographer. All books except those with The Lithographer are available.
