Half-Wooden House, Gas Lane, Old Sydney
1919. Etching, titled, signed and editioned 27/50 in pencil in lower margin, 30.3 x 20.4cm. Minor foxing, soiling and chips to margins. Held in the Art Gallery of NSW and National Gallery of Australia collections. Gas Lane’s name originates from the old gas works which were located at Darling Harbour. Gas lighting in the streets of Sydney was inaugurated in 1841 on 24 May, Queen Victoria’s birthday. Ref: Sydney Architecture.
