Photographer’s line reads “By W’m Sargent, photo artist, 338 George St, Sydney.” Portraits include the Medical Association’s first President and Vice President, A. Renwick and A. Moffitt. Ref: ADB, SMH, 12/5/1880.

Calcutta-born William Sargent, listed as an artist in Sands’ Sydney Directories from 1875 until 1888, was a son of a Major-General E.W. Sargent of the 18th Royal Irish Regiment. Sargent died aged 39 at his home in Paddington (Sydney) in 1889. Ref: Historic Houses Trust.
