c1880. Albumen paper photograph, titled with photographer’s line in centre of image, each vignette captioned with sitter’s name, 26.4 x 20.4cm. Minor foxing. Framed. Photographer’s line reads “By W’m Sargent, photo artist, 338 George St, Sydney.” Portraits include the Medical Association’s first President and Vice President, A. Renwick and A. Moffitt. Ref: ADB, SMH, 12/5/1880. Calcutta-born William Sargent, listed as an artist in Sands’ Sydney Directories from 1875 until 1888, was a son of a Major-General E.W. Sargent of the 18th Royal Irish Regiment. Sargent died aged 39 at his home in Paddington (Sydney) in 1889. Ref: Historic Houses Trust.
