Annamite Women [Vietnam]
c1870s. Albumen paper photograph, titled in pencil verso, 9.3 x 5.8cm (paper). Minor foxing. Annam was a French protectorate encompassing the central region of Vietnam. The Vietnamese were subsequently referred to as “Annamites.” Nationalist writers adopted the word “Vietnam” in the late 1920s. Ref: Wiki.
