1934. Oil on canvas, signed lower left, 148.5 x 127cm. Holes to edges, lower portion of canvas folded under stretcher bar (when re-stretched, obscuring part of signature), some soiling and surface loss overall. Original rope border around canvas. Verse in image reads “From all division let our land be free / for God has made her one, complete she lies / within the unbroken circle of the skies / and around her indivisible the sea / breaks on her single shore.” This painting was the centrepiece of a display at the Sydney Morning Herald Art Gallery which opened in December 1934, showcasing the Herald’s photography collection. This actual work appears in an article on the gallery in The Home magazine, February 1, 1935, p22.
