[Sydney Landmarks By Night]

c1938. Group of nine vintage silver gelatin photographs, one annotated with photographer’s name in ink in lower margin, most captioned in ink or pencil on backing below image, 15.3 x 20.3cm. Silvering, slight surface loss to edges of image, tipped to original backing.

Captions include “Anthony Hordern & Sons; The ‘Sun’ Building [Elizabeth St]; Anzac [Memorial]; Woolloomooloo Bay; Town Hall; Mark Foys; [and] Imperial Service Club.”

These images may have been taken in connection with the 1938 Centenary celebrations. Frank H. Boland lived and worked at Duntroon from 1918-1922. An electrical engineer, he owned and ran the Star Theatre in Queanbeyan from around 1925. It is thought that he was the official motion picture photographer at the opening of Parliament House, Canberra in 1927. Ref: NLA.
