c1938. Six watercolour sketches with gouache and ink, laid down on two panels, titled, annotated, signed “George [G...]”, dated and captioned in ink on backing below images, 12.4 x 18.9cm. Slight foxing, scuffs and surface loss to images, foxing, tears and creases to backing.

Annotation includes “Suggestion. Sesquicentenary Celebrations 1938. Messrs Anthony Hordern & Sons Ltd, Brickfield Hill, Sydney.” Captions include “1796. George St, Brickfield Hill; 1823. Mrs Hordern’s bonnet shop, King St, the birthplace of the ‘senior store’; 1842. George St, looking south from St Andrew’s Cathedral; 1858. The Haymarket. The Peacock Inn was at the corner of George St and Campbell Street; 1894. George St, the Haymarket before electric trams; 1903. George St (Brickfield Hill) and Goulburn St, site of ‘the senior store.’”
