Views Of Yarrabah Mission, Queensland

c1893. Album of eleven albumen paper photographs, each annotated in various hands in ink or pencil on backing below image, sizes from 11.2 x 9cm to 11.1 x 14.3cm. Slight missing portions, tears, creases or soiling to most, each laid down on original backing.

This album appears to be taken around the time the Yarrabah mission was set up in 1893 by an Anglican church missionary, Ernest Gribble with the help of the local Aboriginal elder, Menmuny. Over time, many people (including some South Sea Islanders) were relocated from homelands in the surrounding area to Yarrabah, located on Cape Grafton approximately 53 kilometres from Cairns.
