Brandt Bros, Lamp Manufacturers, Sydney
c1900. Group of three images comprising one vintage silver gelatin and two printout paper photographs, one is annotated in ink on image lower right, with photographer’s line printed on backing below image, another photograph is annotated “Brandt Bros” in pencil on backing verso, sizes from 13.4 x 9.1cm to 15.1 x 20.8cm. Slight foxing, silvering, laid down on original backing. Signs depicted in some of the images include “Brandt Bros, Lamp Manufacturers, 238 Pitt St, Sydney.” Annotation states dimensions of a lamp manufactured by the company. Photographer’s line reads “Nada Studios, 606 George Street, near Bathurst St.” Brandt Bros was located in Pitt St near Park St, opposite the old School of Arts building. An article on the innovative and inventive company, which had quite a range of products, stated that the King of Tonga, one of their clients, purchased a machine which made ice in ten minutes.
