Bendigo Easter Fair Floats, Golden Square
1904. Pair of vintage silver gelatin photographs, 21 x 15.2cm, 20.1 x 14.4cm. Slight stains, foxing, discolouration and scuffs overall, each laid down on original backing. Text on depicted floats includes “Golden Square. Bendigo Easter Fair 1904.” Gold was discovered in Bendigo in the spring of 1851, about 200 metres from where the Golden Square Hotel now stands. A gold rush ensued, resulting in the establishment of the city of Bendigo. Two women, Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Farrell, are credited with having made the discovery. Ref: Wiki.
