Portraits Of Harold Cazneaux’s Family And Friends

c1910s-1940s. Group of four vintage silver gelatin photographs, most inscribed and signed by Cazneaux in pencil or ink verso, some dated and one signed by Cazneaux’s wife Winnie in pencil or ink verso, sizes from 10.3 x 7cm to 13.4 x 10.1cm. Some with slight surface loss and tears to edges, minor dents, stains, foxing.

Inscriptions include:

(a) “This is a favourite portrait of father of mine…This is copied from a rough proof sent to me some time ago. If you like it I will send a finished art print to you and one to mum. Harold”; (b) “This one of my cherished photos I give to you. Taken at Freeman Studios before she was married. Harold”; (c) “To dear Carmen, from Harold, Winnie and our little babies; wishing you a most happy New Year…”; (d) “To Carmen, the best photo of King [Cazneaux’s brother], taken by street photographer in George St, Sydney. Lizzie, his wife, is with him. It was not so long after that that King had to leave his job owing to heart trouble, which caused his end. Sept. 7, 1941. Harold.”
