1916. Ink and gouache sketch on typed letter with date, signed by Ure Smith in ink with “Smith & Julius” stamp, 26.5 x 20.8cm (paper). Minor stains to upper portion, old folds, crinkles.

Letterhead includes “Smith & Julius, illustrators and designers, Waltham Buildings, 24 Bond Street, Sydney. Sydney Ure Smith, Harry Julius, Albert Collins.” Letter is addressed to Claude Willmott, an advertising agent, and sketches include a baby with caption referencing Willmott. Smith & Julius was one of the first advertising companies in Australia. Letter addresses a complaint about the pricing of some drawings for a baby powder. Captions in sketch suggest the client was Johnson & Johnson. Ref: Dictionary of Sydney.
