1899. Colour lithograph, signed and annotated “serie 2/no. 1” in pencil in lower margin, 31 x 40.9cm. Framed. This is a colour variant proof of the second (final) state, before the edition of 100. Printed by Atelier Auguste Clot and published by Ambroise Vollard, Paris. Provenance: Stadia Graphics, Sydney, 1985. Vuillard experimented on the use of colour, producing several proofs before arriving at the final choice for the edition. Few of these colour proofs were signed by Vuillard and the edition of 100 was not systematically signed. Ref: Roger-Marx #33 ii/ii, Johnson #155/2.
