At The Pinnacle Of Popularity. “The World’s News”

1908. Colour lithograph with overprinted letterpress, signed in image lower left, annotated in ink in an unknown hand on image upper right, 51 x 37.6cm. Minor perforations and foxing to margins, repaired tears, creases. Linen-backed.

Annotation reads “Of course, the name of Jack Farleigh speaks alone of the pinnacle of popularity.” Letterpress reads “Why Smith left home! Browne’s in Town!!! Arncliffe, NSWR [New South Wales Railway]. July 9, 1908.”

The World’s News was an Australian magazine published in Sydney from 1901 to 1955. There was a John Farleigh (1861?-1949), who was an alderman on the Rockdale Council from 1903 to 1908. The annotation could be a campaign slogan for his re-election.
