1975. Vintage silver gelatin photograph, signed in pencil verso with an erroneous title and date, 17 x 24.3cm. Developing flaws, creases, old handling crinkles. Gough Whitlam, whose term of office was from 5 Dec. 1972 to 11 Nov. 1975, opened the Modern Masters exhibition on 9 April 1975, commencing with the statement “This is probably the most important art exhibition ever to come to Australia.” Ref: PM Transcripts.
