Phillip St [Sydney]
1932. Etching, titled, editioned 84/90 and signed “E. Warner” in pencil in lower margin, 19.5 x 31.5cm. Old tape and repaired minor tears to edges of paper, foxing to upper margin, old mount burn. Held in SLNSW. British-born Warner trained as an engraver before first travelling to Australia in 1910. After working as an illustrator for newspapers in New Zealand, he opened a commercial art studio in Sydney in 1919. He became well-known as an etcher, lithographer and a painter. He was a founding member of the Australian Ex Libris Society and exhibited with the Australian Society of Painters and Etchers. His work is held in several major institutions.
