[The “Southern Cross” In Flight For The Film “Smithy”]
c1945. Vintage silver gelatin photograph, signed and dated “’47” in pencil verso, 19.1 x 25.9cm. Slight creases to upper right and lower left corners, minor scuffing and chips to lower right edge. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith flew the Southern Cross in the first ever trans-Pacific flight to Australia from the United States in 1928. The plane was briefly brought out of retirement in 1945 for the filming of the movie Smithy (1946). Ref: Wiki.
