T.J. Arniel, The Central Butcher [Wellington, NSW]
c1909. Vintage silver gelatin photograph, postcard format, annotated in ink verso, 8.6 x 13.6cm. Minor surface loss, silvering to edges of image. An advertisement in The Wellington Times [NSW], 1909, states “A short time ago I [T.J. Arniel] started a business in Maughan Street for the purpose of giving the public cheap meat. I have kept my word, and now find I can do still better for the public…I pay union wages, and ask no man to work for a boy’s wages.” The butcher’s signs include “tripe, black pudding, saveloys, pork fritz [sausage], pressed beef.” Ref: Trove.
