Australian rock band The Heroes (1979-1982), formed in Newcastle, was the last band to play at Newcastle’s popular Star Hotel. On the night of the Heroes’ performance of 19 September 1979 one of Australia’s largest riots broke out over the hotel’s controversial closure, with an estimated 4,000 people battling police.
