1856. Hand-coloured lithograph, initials “S.T.G.”, title and text below image, 10.3 x 17cm. Repaired minor tears and creases to corners, slight foxing and paper remnants to image upper centre, trimmed margins. Laid down on acid-free paper.

Text continues “Allan & Wigley. Lith., Syd.” Held in NLA.

“The Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts [SMSA] was founded on 22 March 1833. The aims and objectives of this institution were the intellectual improvement of its members and the cultivation of literature, science and art.” It is the oldest operating school of arts in Australia, with its building incorporated in the Galeries shopping complex.
