Claremont in Rose Bay, NSW, “was built in 1851-1852 for Bristol-born Sydney businessman George Thorne (1810-1891) who had migrated to Australia in 1840. He married Elizabeth Ann Bisdee in Hobart in 1842. They had 10 children [one of whom was Rosalie]…George Thorne retained ownership of Claremont until early 1879 but the family did not reside in the house continuously.” Claremont formed the original building of Kincoppal School.
