This engraving of the newly completed Hyde Park Barracks (Macquarie St, Sydney) was after a sketch by French navigator Louis de Freycinet. “It is one of the earliest surviving records of the barracks and one of the earliest architectural drawings made in Australia.” The Hyde Park Barracks, designed by architect Francis Greenway, were built to house convicts.
