Landscape, Katoomba [Blue Mountains, NSW]
1938. Vintage bromoil, signed and dated in pencil on image lower right, titled in pencil in lower margin, 21.3 x 14.8cm. Provenance: Moffitt estate. A Sydney solicitor who took up photography about 1920, Moffitt joined the Sydney Camera Club in 1927. He experimented with paper negatives in the 1930s, producing landscape bromoils which have a distinctive graphic style. Always an advocate for pictorial photography, he wrote an article for the Australasian Photo-Review in 1947 defending the techniques used in pictorial photography.
