Jantzen is a brand of swimwear established in 1916 by John A. Zehntbauer and Carl Jantzen, the founders of the Portland Knitting Company in Oregon in 1910. Both Zehntbauer and Jantzen were members of the Portland Rowing Club, and in 1913, the company was asked to provide a rowing suit for protection against the cold. The one-piece wool garment Carl Jantzen designed eventually became the prototype for the rib-stitch swimsuits that were first produced in 1915. Following WWI, the company began promoting the term “swimsuit” instead of “bathing suit” and introduced the slogan “The suit that changed bathing to swimming.” Ref: Wiki.
