1947–1978. Softcover “DJ’s” exhibition catalogue with lineblock cover, a Christmas card with linocut illustration and a handwritten note in ink, a typed letter signed by Mahood in ink, and five newspaper cuttings, 13.7 x 11.1cm (catalogue). Covers detached from catalogue, minor stains and tears.

The group consists of eight individual items: (a) Exhibition [Catalogue] of Earthenware Figures, Lustre and Filigree Ware by Marguerite Mahood, David Jones’ Art Gallery, March 27th to April 16th, 1947. Twenty-four pages listing 261 pottery works and their prices, with three black-and-white illustrated pages; (b) Christmas card by Mahood with linocut cover initialled and titled “Australian ringtail possum” in block in lower portion, addressed to a “Miss Hitchcock” with note offering season’s greetings for 1964; (c) Typed letter to a “[Ms] Florence” from 1974, encouraging her to continue writing; and (d) Five newspaper clippings, dated from 1967 to 1974: concerning the work of Aubrey Beadsley, Mahood’s newly-earned Doctorate of Philosophy at the age of 70, and the publication of her book The Loaded Line: Australian political caricature 1788–1901.

Marguerite Mahood (Aust., 1901–1989) was a painter, potter, printmaker and art historian. She was “one of the few professional studio potters of the period,” and contributed to ceramic knowledge throughout Australia with her many articles on the subject. Ref: MAAS; Wiki.
