The Lid Off
c1918. Ink and wash with gouache, titled in ink lower centre, annotated “Drawing by Douglas Dundas circa 1918, ref. Kerry Dundas” in pencil by artist’s son (Kerry) verso, 22.2 x 17.9cm. Slight foxing. An early sketch by Douglas Dundas at the age of 18, this image, alluding to WWI, shows the flames of revolution and defeat “blowing the lid off” German autocracy.
