Around The Commonwealth By Aeroplane [Australian Board Game]

c1914. Colour lithograph board game with cloth spine, accompanied with original small dice box and old cigarette tin containing six die-cast aeroplane counters, “The National” company trademark shield and game name appear on board and box, 36.8 x 37.1cm (game), 13.3 x 10.3cm (rules), 7.5 x 8.8 x 4.2cm (box). In good condition except for minor wear to edges of cover, slight foxing and minor splits to board, old paper tape to dice box.

The dice box includes a pair of bone dice with wooden throwing cup and game rules. Text on game includes “Copyright No. 3271.” The six die-cast aeroplane “Bristol Boxkite” counters, which are extremely rare due to their fragility, are in good condition with original paint with minor chips.

The National trademark, which was in the shape of a shield, was registered on 1 September 1913. The company was located in Hawthorn, Melbourne.
