Sunny Day, Rainy Day [Manly, NSW]

c1920s. Pair of vintage silver gelatin photographs, panorama format, each with studio wet or blind stamp on original backing below image, 11.4 x 49.7cm, 11.4 x 50.3cm. Foxing, silvering, minor surface loss and chips to edges.

One stamp reads “R.P. Moore, 379 Kent St, Sydney”; the other stamp includes the same details and “Tel. City 11252.” One image shows a number of figures in the street, on porches and using the picnic tables on North Steyne at Manly beach; the other image shows the same location on a rainy day.

Both photographs show the Ocean View boarding house, formerly owned by a J.P. Wright, on the corner of North Steyne and Raglan Street, Manly. The boarding house later became the Ocean View Sports Club during the 1930s. Ref: The Evening News, 7.2.1899; Google Maps; Government Gazette Notices, 24.11.1939.
