c1920s-1930s. Group of 12 pencil drawings and two linocuts pasted in hand-bound album, annotated, signed and dated “3.3.1978” by publisher Richard Griffin of Gryphon Books in ink on final page of album, 35.1 x 20.5cm (book), 11.4 x 15.5cm to 24.5 x 16cm (drawings). This album, titled Designs By Christian Waller, was assembled and bound by Richard Griffin in 1978 while the books The Gates of Dawn and The Great Breath were being reprinted by Gryphon Books, as mentioned in his annotation.

The album’s drawings by Waller include strong Art Deco styles and classical studies.

Christian Waller (nee Yandell) was the wife of fellow prominent artist Napier Waller (Aust., 1893–1972). “A successful artist, she was renowned for her book illustrations, prints, murals and stained-glass window designs. Her work is held in major public collections, including the Art Gallery of NSW.” Ref: AGNSW.
