Letter By Admiral Cecil F. Thursby

1934. Handwritten letter in ink, one sheet, with embossed letterhead, dated “25.7.34” and signed by Thursby, additional typed text to upper edge of paper, 18.3 x 14cm.

Letterhead reads “The Sytche, Dorrington, Shrewsbury.” Typed text reads “Admiral Cecil F. Thursby (1861–1936). Naval.” The letter refers to the landing of ANZAC troops at Gallipoli in 1915.

British Admiral Sir Cecil Fiennes Thursby served in WWI “initially commanding his squadron in protecting the first movements of the British Expeditionary Force to France in 1914, before deploying to the Mediterranean as Commander of the 5th Battle Squadron in the Dardanelles and then as Commander of the 2nd Squadron landing ANZAC forces at Gaba Tepe in Gallipoli in 1915.” Ref: Wiki.
