Group of five silver gelatin photographs, various publishing annotations in ink and pencil and stamps including date, affixed slips of newsprint and labels verso, sizes from 16.5 x 21.5cm to 25.2 x 22.4cm (approx. each). Handling crinkles, surface cracking, scuffs, some with retouching. Stamps include “Used 21 June 1966, Financial Review”; “Used 8 Apr 1970, Daily Sun”; “Used 16 Dec 1969, Herald”; “Used 13 Mar 1981, Herald.” Newsprint clippings include caption “An aerial view of the Brickfield Hill site of Anthony Hordern’s.” Typed carbon copy slip includes "Pics by John Nobley…Fin. Rev." Printed John Fairfax & Sons Limited label includes “Dec 1941. Rush for blackout paper at Anthony Hordern’s, city. Cameraman Burke publ. Herald, 13/12/41.” Images include street and aerial views of the iconic Sydney department store building, and an interior scene of a crowd of customers at a counter, frantically reaching for rolls of blackout paper during WWII.
