Wallpaper Featuring Iconic Images Relating To Captain Cook’s South Pacific Voyages
c1970s. Roll of vinyl wallpaper, with original label, 52cm (width), 10m (approx. length). Incision about 13cm in length with slight foxing and stains at beginning of roll. Label includes name of manufacturer “Vywall”, and preparation and hanging instructions. The repeat pattern illustrates iconic pre-colonial images including two Gweagal warriors originally engraved by Scottish draftsman Sydney Parkinson (c1745–1771), and a portrait of Captain Cook after British artist Nathaniel Dance-Holland (1735–1811).
