Les Diners De Gala [Gala’s Dinners]
1971. Consisting of four colour lithographs with drypoint, each signed in pencil in lower margin, 48.3 x 57cm (approx. each). Crinkles and minor tears to some margins. The group of four images are from Dali’s suite, Les Diners de Gala, comprising of 12 colour lithographs, which accompanied the publication of the cookbook of the same name. The cookbook, which was compiled by both Dali and his wife, Gala, included “lavish”, “outlandish” and “erotic” recipes from various leading French chefs of the day. The titles for these four images, which are listed in Michler & Lopsinger (#1337, 1338, 1340, 1342), are as follows: (a) Les Je mange Gala aphrodisiaques (I eat Gala’s aphrodisiacs) (b) Les Spoutniks astiques d’asticots statistiquies (Sputniks polished by statistical maggots) (c) Les Panaches panaches (Variegated plumes) (d) Les Caprices pinces princiers (Princely pliers caprices) Ref: Castellanian Art Museum; The Guardian, 11.10.2016.
