c1865. Hand-coloured albumen paper photograph, oval format, photographer’s label verso, 16.4 x 12.9cm. Archivally remounted in original bird’s-eye maple frame.

Label reads “Freeman Brothers Gallery of Photography, 231 George Street, Sydney.” Back of frame has a rare original early label “R. Smith, Picture Frame Maker, 7 York Street, one door from Barrack Street.”

It is rare to have the original labels for a Sydney photographer and framer together.
