Handwritten document bound with original cloth tape, seven pages, on paper watermarked “Partridge & Cooper, No. 1 Chancery Lane”, signed and dated in ink by two witnesses in 1873, various signatures replicated in document including that of Governor Charles Augustus Fitz Roy and Governor John Young, 42 x 34cm. Old folds, stains and crinkles overall, minor tear and surface loss to cover page due to oxidation of ink stain.

Attested 1873 copy of a grant of land made in 1855 by Charles Augustus Fitz Roy (with an amendment signed in 1864 by Governor John Young) to Sarah Wentworth and Henrietta Hill, as tenants in common, “on the condition that [they] construct proper drains through and from the said land to the nearest common drain or sewer…” The granted parcels were in Circular Quay, bounded by Alfred and Arbitration Streets and Reiby Lane, and in Macquarie Place, near the Tank Stream and close to the place of landing of the First Fleet in 1788.
