1873. Watercolour and gouache, signed and dated in ink lower right, 32.7 x 23.2cm. Repaired tears to upper left corner, repaired tears and missing portion to centre of lower edge. Influenced by his teacher John Skinner Prout and by Conrad Martens, Elyard’s preferred subjects were picturesque buildings, street scenes and landscapes. He was a colourful figure who at various times claimed to be the biblical Elijah and the King of Australia. Ref: DAAO.
